Online Workshop Successfully Held : Radioisotopic Techniques in Paleolimnology
The Online Workshop on Radioisotopic Techniques in Paleolimnology was successfully conducted on Monday, 17 November 2025, from 08.00 to 12.00 WIB, bringing together participants from academic, research, and professional backgrounds to deepen their understanding of radioisotopic applications in environmental reconstruction.
This workshop focused on the principles, analytical methods, and practical applications of natural radioisotopes, particularly Lead-210 (Pb-210) and Radiocarbon Dating, as key tools in paleolimnological research. Through a series of expert-led presentations, participants gained insights into how sediment-based radioisotopic techniques are used to establish chronologies, interpret environmental change, and reconstruct historical ecosystem dynamics.
The workshop featured prominent speakers from Badan Riset dan Inovasi Nasional (BRIN) and Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP).
Dr. Satrio (BRIN) presented on Radiocarbon Dating, emphasizing analytical methods and its applications in environmental and sediment studies.
Dr. Ali Arman Lubis, M.T. (BRIN) discussed the analytical techniques and applications of the natural radioisotope Pb-210 in paleolimnological research, highlighting its role in high-resolution sediment dating.
Prof. Dr. Tri Retnaningsih Soeprobowati, M.App.Sc. (UNDIP) provided an integrative perspective on the broader use of radioisotopes in paleolimnology, linking methodological approaches with real-world case studies.
The session was moderated by Dr. Aulia Rahim, S.Pi., M.Ling., who facilitated structured discussions and interactive exchanges between speakers and participants. The online format via Zoom enabled broad participation and effective knowledge sharing across institutions and regions.
Overall, the workshop strengthened participants’ technical capacity in radioisotopic methods and underscored the importance of robust chronological frameworks in paleolimnological research. The event also supported professional development by providing free electronic certificates, reinforcing its contribution to advancing interdisciplinary environmental science in Indonesia.
